Poker Playing Basics
What are the chances of opponent A winning a hand against opponent B when playing? The correct answer is that their chances are the same. If you have any knowledge of American football, you will acknowledge that the basic plays are: running plays and passing plays. During a passing play, the ball will be thrown by a quarterback resulting in three possible outcomes:
1. nobody catches it – LOSE
2. receiver catches it – WIN
3. defense takes over – LOSE
The same case applies in poker. When a hand is dealt in poker (any hand), there are four possible outcomes:
1. “incomplete” and you fold – LOSE
2. “beaten” in a showdown – LOSE
3. winning hand – WIN
4. you bet/bluff – WIN (some %)
In these instances, you will only win if you have placed a bet. The chances of either of players having a strong starting hand aren’t high. Possibilities are high have a loser hand during the start of the game. If you are the first to act place a bet, you will make other player to take a look at their hand. They can either call the bet with a bad hand or just fold so that they can save some chips. This means that during heads-up play, one should mostly play aggressively than they would in normal play. This should be done bearing in mind that both players can have crap hands. Use betting as a method for controlling the game thus winning most of what would be “crap shoots”. Winning crap shoots when you have both crap hands will make one come out on top. At the same time they can be able to take down several of the hands. Thee hands are ones you can win having great starting hand and ones you win by having a successful bet/bluff.
So, here are the BASIC rules you can use when playing heads-up poker. This is how the game is won.
1. If in doubt, BET!
2. Presence of pocket pair or board pair, BET BIGGER!
3. When there is a chance to represent the board, BET BIGGER YET!
In most cases and generally, one should avoid calling all-in hands, because most players only go all-in when they are in possession of a big winning hand. You should go all-in during the times that you think you positively have a winning hand. Most of the time you will need to practice playing heads-up. The best way to learn the game will be through the use of practicing. By practicing, you can be able to play the game enough times such that you get the feel of it in not time. Once you have practiced for a long time, you will also be able t6o be confident when playing the game. If you do not have a platform for practicing, you can try using the online games platform. Most of these sites have a place where a person is able to practice before they start playing.
